In my over excitement of trying to complete 23 Things (and a reminder from other people) I forgot mashups! Spell with Flickr gets my top vote. The Flickr "Pickr" color is interesting and fun to play around with. The programmable web...eh...lost my interest for some reason but can see the value. Guess I rather look at pictures and colors.

RSS and Newsreaders...Oh My!

I have to admit I've avoided being curious about RSS and Newsreaders...I read all dang day why would I need to add RSS and Newsreaders to the mix. Well, now that I've "schooled" myself and realize that RSS and Newsreaders organize your 411 and put what you want where you want to read it. I went with iGoogle and honestly, had no clue it existed. It nicely grabs more info than you can shake a stick at. The "feeds" I grabbed were "The Onion" - and "Found Magazine" - www.foundmagazine.com - it's a site that posts items people have randomly found.
Now grabbing the VHS 23 Things blog was another matter, I won't admit how long it took me to figure that out...I'm embarrassed....but I did it.

Now to topix.net and syndic8.com. topix.net was much easier for me to search and actually look at. syndic8.com completely turned me off just reminded me of "code" - though the searches turned up more specific info. Both sites gave me random results. Probably will not be going back to visit.

more Flickr

In addition to checking out how LC and LVA used Flickr...a few of us in Archives have been using Flickr to develop a slide show for Archives Fair!! October is Archives Month and the VHS is hosting a Archives Fair on Tuesday, October 21st from 11am to 3pm.

Laura and Margaret have more knowledge than I do...I've only added comments to the photos that Laura uploaded and have asked Margaret to step in when I can't figure something out. But I'm glad for the experience of using Flickr. I hope our slide show and Archives Fair will be a success!

Flickr

This week's task is exploring Flickr. Thankfully I'm a little ahead of the times and have enjoyed Flickr before this. I was happy to see the LC using Flickr but not so happy to see the LVA using it (sorta kidding)...but it's great to see Flickr used to provide even more access to the images in these institutions collections. I would be happy to see the VHS jump on the Flickr train.

Phew....

Ok, Blogger blocked me from blogging supposedly I used some suspect verbage...no quite sure what was suspect maybe "win" "that" "ipod" - well my worries are over and I'm back in blog town.
